Data Engineer

About the Role

Cascadia Health is hiring a Data Engineer to build the pipelines behind its clinical-operations dashboards, the tools that tell 90+ clinics how patient volume, staffing, and telehealth utilization are trending each morning. You will own dbt models and Airflow jobs that move data from EHR, scheduling, and billing systems into Snowflake, all inside a HIPAA-compliant environment. The role is fully remote across US time zones, with the team gathering in Portland once a quarter.

What You'll Do

• Design and maintain dbt models in Snowflake that power daily clinical-operations dashboards for 90+ clinic sites
• Build and monitor Airflow DAGs ingesting data from EHR, scheduling, billing, and telehealth platforms on hourly and nightly cadences
• Enforce HIPAA safeguards in every pipeline, including PHI masking, role-based access in Snowflake, and audit logging
• Add data-quality tests and freshness checks so dashboard metrics stay trustworthy as source systems change
• Cut warehouse spend by profiling queries, tuning clustering keys, and right-sizing virtual warehouses
• Partner with analysts and clinic-operations leaders to turn new reporting requests into modeled, documented datasets
• Write runbooks and participate in a light on-call rotation covering overnight pipeline failures

What You'll Bring

• 3-6 years building production data pipelines, with at least 2 years on a cloud warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
• Hands-on experience with dbt in a team setting, including tests, documentation, and pull-request review
• Solid Airflow skills: authoring DAGs, handling retries and backfills, and debugging failed runs
• Strong SQL and working Python for ELT, orchestration, and data-quality tooling
• Experience handling regulated or sensitive data, ideally PHI under HIPAA
• Comfort using Git-based workflows and CI to ship warehouse changes safely
• Clear written communication with non-engineering partners across US time zones

Nice to Have

• Prior work with healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, or 837/835 claims files
• Experience with Fivetran, Airbyte, or similar managed ingestion tools
• Exposure to BI platforms such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
• Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code for warehouse and pipeline resources
